Rev. Dr. Jim Gill began his ministry among us on September 14, 2008 preaching by candlelight to a faithful crowd the day after hurricane Ike came to town.
Jim is a native Houstonian who received his B.A. from the University of Houston, and his Masters and Doctorate degrees from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Jim and his wife Anne have been married since 1976. Anne is an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and recently received her Ph.D. from UT. They are the parents of two children, Andrew a recent graduate of the University of Houston and Abbey, a sophomore at Texas State in San Marcos, Texas. Jim was ordained in 1978 and has served as a Campus Minister at Lamar University, an Associate Pastor at St. Andrew's Presbyterian in Houston, solo Pastor at St. Andrew Presbyterian in San Antonio, and John Knox Presbyterian in Houston. Jim comes to us having planted Peace Presbyterian Church in Pearland, Texas and brought it to charter last March. Jim just completed a three year term on the Board of Directors of the Pearland Area Chamber of Commerce. He was active in the Pearland Ministerial Alliance and was serving as its Vice President. He also has served as a Spiritual Advisor to the Houston Cursillo Council, and as a Spiritual Advisor for several Walk to Emmaus and Cursillo and Kairos weekends in the Houston area as well as in the Dallas area and Oklahoma; and in April of 2009 he will be the music leader for one in Arkansas. He has served on the Board of CanCare, a Houston based ministry to cancer survivors and their families. He has served on the Board of the Synod of the Sun's Men's Conference at Mo Ranch, and nationally, Jim served as a Spiritual Advisor to the National Organization of Presbyterian Men. In addition to his calling as a pastor, for fun Jim loves to write and perform his own songs around town, either solo or with his band, "The Altar'd Egos." In the late 70's, before he began working as a pastor in a local church, Jim released two albums with Star Song Records. While those albums are long out of production, Jim has produced eight CD's of recent live performances at local churches and a video produced at the Houston Improv. |
